5 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR COUPLE / ENGAGEMENT SESSION STRESS FREE

#1 PICK A LOCATION THAT MEANS SOMETHING TO YOU TWO AS A COUPLE

Location’s for engagement shoots can be more important than you think, especially if they hold sentimental value. Sure, I can make any field, or beach look beautiful, but it will hands down be a more fun and genuine experience if we are spending our time at a place you both love. Being in a familiar place will make you two more at easy and comfortable in front of the camera which is one of the most important things.

#2 LIGHTING / TIME OF DAY

If you have selected an outdoor location for your engagement session I usually suggest shooting an hour before sunset. That way you can shoot golden hour, sunset, and then get a few romantic shots in at blue hour. However, if you plan to shoot indoors I always suggest shooting anytime between 11:00AM - 2PM so you will have this really beautiful strong light coming through the windows making it the perfect time to shoot.

#3 PLAN YOUR OUTFITS AHEAD OF TIME

Engagement sessions are stressful enough on their own, the last thing you want to be doing an hour before you have to leave is running around trying to figure out the perfect outfit right before heading out the door. It tends to cause a lot of tension before shoots as well if someone wasn’t prepared or forgot something. Pick an outfit a few days before, have everything ironed and set up to the side of your bedroom ( that way you won’t forget it, but you also won’t get them ruined, )

#4 DON’T BE AFRAID TO BE GOOFY

The whole point of engagement sessions is to be yourself and to have pictures that truly represent you as a couple!

They don’t have to be super staged and posed.

#5 MAKE PLANS FOR AFTER

You’re all dressed up anyway!

Make your engagement session part 1 to your date night!

I think engagement sessions should be looked forward too, a lot of fun, and something you look back on as a great day. Going out together just the two of you after all the shooting is a nice way to process the day and talk over your experience with your photographer.

SOME EXTRA THINGS TO THINK ABOUT / BRING TO YOUR ENGAGEMENT SESSION

  • Water bottles + snacks ( something small like a granola bar / popcorn )

  • Gum

  • Bring your makeup bag / hairbrush

  • Comfortable shoes ( you can bring heals or wedges if that’s the look you want, but have shoes that you can walk around in )

  • Bring an umbrella
